2 year mark

Second PETScan in 3 months. I requested that the same radiologist read it. At my follow up oncology appointment, MD said that there was really no significant changes and he would consider it normal. In fact, he wants to decrease appts to every 6 months and have me follow up with gyn—only coming back to him if there is problem.
I guess this is great news, but I’m very apprehensive. I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’ll take it for now.
I think of all of you daily and always keep you in my prayers. I wish everyone a year full of happiness, good health and love.

Hi Nan…I totally understand because I feel the same way. I never let myself get completely happy over good PET scans cause I’m concerned it’s only temporary good news. This is the nature of the beast,I suppose.

I wish you continued good PET scans and a happy, healthy year ahead for you.

Mari

Hi Nan, I am with you on not getting overly happy and excited from clean scans. I will always be cautiously optimistic, and yes, I believe that is the nature of the beast.

Try to celebrate every milestone at least a little. It is an accomplishment and we do owe ourselves a little celebration after every thing we go through..Sending peace and happy vibes to you! Carla

Surgery for inguinal node/ ovary removal

Second PET scan results—at MD appt. On Feb. 10, the oncologist reviewed second PET scan results. Inguinal node increased activity slightly to 2.3 from 1.9 and right ovary showed increase activity to over 7. So, because of the poorly differential cells of the original cancer diagnosis in 2009, he proposed two options. First, repeat PET scan in one month and see if activity stabilizes or decreases. Second, take ovary out, if cancer cells present—take other one out too, and take out questionable lymph node for biopsy. I opted, without hesitation, for the surgery. Just get the stuff out to ease my mind. Surgery was scheduled for Feb 21.
After surgery, MD said ovary was hemmorrhagic and benign and lymph node appeared benign as well. So, today I’m going for post-op follow up, to get final pathology report.
I see cancer as something that is always present in my life now and I hate it! It is like always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Thank you for this site and allowing me to share my experience and feelings. I hope that it helps others in any way possible. This site is more therapeutic than anyone could know. I’ll keep you posted with any updates I hear today. God bless!
